In which I ramble... again.

I really finished that painting I talked about on facebook today. Whoot whoot, it makes me really happy when I look at it in all it's finishedness. It's a big painting and it has so many elements I was intimidated by until I used them for this project. It also gave me a very big surprise, and it was a something like my anchor for settling into a life here. But I'll show and tell you more when there can be pictures.

No pictures has turned this blog into a bit of a random. I actually like that I can just ramble on about daily things to you without feeling guilty of not posting anything 'meaty'. I like to babble, sometimes. ^^
I'm saving a lot of the more serious things for later, so you can look forward to some very nice and be-pictured posts whenever the Gods decide to give me back my charger. (Sorry for whining yet again, you can probably tell by now I am veeery impatient). So don't give up reading here just now. ;o)

What else from today? I felt tired. I worked out. It made me feel worse. Well, you can't always win.

The package that arrived from my parents yesterday had christmas presents in it: Two new nightshirts and three pairs of tights. I really needed new ones and had wished for one of each from an environmentally conscious company (they are so expensive I couldn't have afforded them myself), and they bought me so much! I am thrilled! I want to run around in a nightshirt and tights all day now. They are really comfy. :o)

How are you guys? I haven't been able to respond to any of your comments, but I'm always so happy to hear from you, and I visit your blogs, too! *Wave*
Yum, I think it's chips and salad for dinner tonight! Talk later! ;o)

Self portrait Thursday

Yap, I actually made one this week, but I felt so sleepy yesterday night that I didn't get around to posting it. It's here now! :o)

Not much to say about it.
I finally finished a sketch for the first picture of my other book project... after a long time of trial and error, I get to play with paint again. I just need to get to the copy store to print it on watercolor paper and make sure I don't screw up the original ^^
Until then I'm working on the next one and doing a lot of sketching for no real goal... just making pretty things. I'm thinking about what to make of all these little drawings, they're quite stacking up.
Oh and I also did some model sketching, mainly herbs and grasses because I need them for the book.

I'm linking up with "Our creative spaces" again after quite a while this week. Follow the link to see more crafty people's workspaces from this week!
Hope your week went well and wishing you all a great weekend!

My creative space: Doodles and friends

My creative space is full of sketches of a new project this week. My friend Michael who wrote the sweet and thoughtful story for this little book and I are trying to narrow down the pictures to a version that feels right for both of us. That means a lot of trial and error, sidepaths, two steps forward and one step back.

I am excited to experience a new kind of co-work and to see the story evolving from day to day.

Oh by the way: Felix and me found a bee that he liked and I made different versions of it for him to use on their web page. We'll see if they are useful. ;o)

What's up in your creative space? And what's harder for you: Starting a project or finishing it?

My creative space and other wonderful things

Hello everybody, and welcome to a wonderful July!
How are you guys doing? I'm fine, actually, I'm really, really well. Out of several reasons, but hold the horses, first things first:

My creative space this week was about finishing the pictures for my first book project. The artwork is now all done and will go to the writer this weekend, who will put in the text and then take care of the publishing. Awh, I must say I'm really curious what will come out of this... I'll keep you updated. I have a feeling it may take some time, though.

pic with a really strange light due to copyrights and such ^^

So that's that and I've jumped head over heels into the next project which is also a little story I'm illustrating for a dear friend. It's less pages than the cars, but much more detail work, so I'm actually working harder here. But also learning a lot!

Thanks so much for your comments asking for 'my creative space'. I hadn't forgotten, the announcement for the blog hop just moved everything a bit. I hope you're still happy to have it - better late than never. And these comments totally made my day, I didn't think that people were so interested in my works in progress. Check out more of them in the link list at 'Our creative spaces', it's really cool!

Another work in progress is this blog. Yes, the pages are coming back, I promise I'm working on it, I'm just not decided on the design and place to put them yet. Once I hit awesomeness, I'll be putting them right out here and give you a shout out on facebook. Make sure to like my page so you don't miss it! ;o)

And finally, here's a list of things that make me so happy and excited these days:

- It's getting real now: Trev has a tentative date (yet to be confirmed but hey!) for his defense in September. We are both really excited for him to finish this.

- This means we are thinking about where to go next. He wants to take some time off before a post doc and I get to choose where we stay for that time because I'll have to get work there. If you catch me studying maps and browsing volunteer websites these days, you'll know why! ;o)

- For post docs right now he's applying for a job in Texas which sounds like the perfect match for him. I get really excited thinking about maybe moving overseas for a while!

- Moving down on the timescale, I'm planning on traveling for the two last weeks of July with my beautiful friend Tali. I will tell you more once we settled our plans a bit, but we are both really looking forward to the time.

- My family might come and visit this Sunday and of course I'm looking forward to showing off my new home (I know I've done enough of that on the blog, so now I need real people to hassle ^^), but also to the fact that they will bring the sewing machine (I'm not allowed to call it 'mine' since my sisters claim it too from time to time...)

- This is really important because this morning, the postie brought a big fat package full with adooorable fabric - a birthday present from Martin and Sabrina. I'm sooo excited to start sewing from scratch with 'real' fabric (I normally alter clothes or use thrifted sheets and such as sewing materials). I'll keep you updated.

That's enough reasons to be happy, isn't it?
No, wait, there's one more: Maxabella at 'maxabella loves' is having the giveaway of the century celebrating 1000 followers of her blog. As much as I hate having rivals in this competition: You should check it out, it's absolutely awesome!

That's it for now from me :o) Have a great afternoon, the weekend's not far anymore!

Thanks for reading!

My creative space: Beedling... errr... doodling!

Jap, bees have infested my creative space!

It's ok though, the little guys are quite fun!

Trying to design a little bee character for my housemate's beeschool project (I'll tell you more about that soon). We haven't found one that's perfect yet because he has very specific expectations... hoping I'll get it right at some point.

Are you doing anything creative this week? Maybe something that doesn't quite go how you want it to? Or have you had a great success? I'd love to hear about it!

Thursday hugs

My creative space

Pssst! Are you looking for WWW? I've moved it to facebook... click here!

Watercolors... we're at our new place now, settling in slowly, but mainly catching up on work. I have to finish 11 more pages for the book that are due at the end of the month. Normally the coloring takes about two days per page, but I don't have that much time left, so I'm trying to reduce it to one day which means I work longer hours.

As I am getting into coloring again I really start liking it. I used to think coloring was overrated and I liked my pictures generally more with just the lineart. But I think that was actually due to my bad coloring skills which -of course- were due to a lack of practise. I get plenty of that now. And watercolors are such a cool medium. I recently saw an exhibition of watercolor paintings at the tate museum in London, it was just fabulous. They are so versatile.

It is past midnight here now, and I've still got about two hours of work on today's page... I'm not sure if I should squeeze that in tonight or get up earlier tomorrow.
I am hoping to catch some sunshine soon (it's pretty foggy and rainy today),  so I can give you guys a house tour.

My creative space

It's still colorful around here. I'm doing better though, must be practise and all that jazz. ;o)

My creative space

It's all about colors, and I'm not the biggest fan of that. My talent is more with whipping things up, quick lines, some dots and stitches here and there, and then I lose interest. To make going into details more bearable I am working outside in the sun.

My creative space

I've finished the first version of the lineart for the first book project yesterday, it's such a great feeling! Then lately I've been into small craftsprojects again. They're instant gratification and it's a cool way for getting all the crafty supply-stuff off my desk to make room for new ideas.

Here are some peeks from drawings and sketches:

My creative space

Oh happy day! It's the first day of my summer-term-off and I am so excited! The last three days have been filled with an intensive sign language course which was ever so inspiring, but now I am totally happy to organise and plan my time of which won't be a vacation but time to work hard on personal projects, or so I hope. I'm trying to set everything on track for that now. Next week I'll be at the annual wellness-retreat in Austria for a few days, and after that I'll plunge right in!

My desk shows signs of anticipation, too: Staples of colorful socks waiting to become something else (but surely nothing less bright)...

A huge ball of yarn (finally) wound neatly and ready to turn into some last winter hats for friends...

and a (gasp!) pile of books!!! It feels like I haven't 'really' read a book in ages. That means, intentionally picked and joyfully endulged in a book. I've wolved down the odd haphazard volume that happened to cross my ways, but really going to the library, taking home a stack of novels... it felt divine!!
